Upcoming Lizzie Borden Dates to Note

Curious about Lizzie Borden?

June is a big month in terms of important dates relating to accused and acquitted axe murderess Lizzie Borden. I'm going to be doing some posts to mark the anniversaries of her death and the murders.

If you aren't familiar with the real-life crime, 32-year-old spinster, youngest daughter and Sunday School teacher Lizzie Borden was charged with the brutal August 4, 1892 hatchet (axe) slayings of her father, Andrew Borden, and stepmother, Abby Durfee Borden. She was acquitted of the crimes on June 20, 1893. (I'll discuss the discrepancies between axe and hatchet in a later post.)

The original murder house is now the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum at 230 2nd Street, Fall River, Mass. Lizzie continued to live in Fall River in the home she and her sister Emma bought after the trial ended and until her death in 1927 . That home, which Lizzie named Maplecroft, is also expected to open next month as a new B&B by the same owners of the original home. See some photos here.

The first book, Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter, is framed around the trial and includes actual newspaper excerpts, and quotes from inquest and trial records. The book has an alternate-history twist as my premise is: what if Lizzie committed the crimes for a reason? What if her father and stepmother had become... zombies? (See website for details on both books.)

Lizzie Borden Dates in June:

June 1, 1927  -  Lizzie Borden dies.

June 5, 1893  -  Trial begins at New Bedford.

June 10, 1927  -  Emma Borden dies.

June 20, 1893  -  Lizzie Borden found “Not Guilty.”

Are #Zombies... Over?

You hear it constantly in certain hobbies that it is dying, it's over. I've been hearing that for years.

The same has been said about the hit TV series, The Walking Dead. But is it now closer to the truth?

News is that lead star Andrew Lincoln (Rick) will leave during Season 9, according to Bloody-Disgusting.com.  Rumor is that Daryl will be taking on more of the leading spot. Good for Daryl fans. Bad for? Other reports have Maggie leaving, too, as she's signed with another show.

They already killed off fan favorites. So, is any of this really a surprise?

I admit being behind in watching. I watched season 7 last and found the Negan storyline pretty tedious and drawn out. It was time to get it over with. There were stupid plot  and character mistakes. It was time to move on. I like the show and it sucks you in, but it seemed to be spinning its wheels, and yes, dying a slow death. Many others thought that, too, with viewership declining. Many lost interest.

What about Zombies in general? Are they dying out, too?

I don't think so.

Zombie books continue to come out. Type "zombie" in Kindle Store on Amazon and you get 400 pages. Gasp! New books are already up in pre-order for November.

This month I came out with the sequel to Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter  - Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2: The Axe Will Fall.

I could've let it drop but... I couldn't. I wanted to give another adventure, another dimension, to Lizzie Borden and the undead-filled world she finds herself in. Mostly, it's a story of her trying to save her sister, her town, and discover what sinister doings her father could have been involved in and how it continued on.

That's what makes zombies continue to be popular - they offer hope - for the future, for rebuilding a society. They offer the idea that all is not lost, says this article on Polygon.

Zombies will likely morph into something else... They'll have another purpose, or give another view on society. What that will be is hard to say. Got any ideas?

What do you think? Are zombies over, or is it just going into another phase? Like what?

" I had so much fun reading this book! Lizzie is a strong willed heroine who must help solve the mystery of what is causing the zombie outbreak and how her father was involved, all while trying to stay out of prison.
