A to Z Blog Challenge - G for Books with Girl in the Title

* Today is the letter G for the  2015  A to Z  Blog Challenge *

Books with the word "Girl" in the Title
By C.A. Verstraete

I have to thank fellow author Belinda Frisch who mentioned noticing an interesting trend.

Since I'm usually a "day late, dollar short" kind of person, I have to say--- really?? For once I really am "trendy" for using the word "girl" in a book title, as  in GIRL Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie?

Who knew????

Oh, and before I share my findings, if you're an author, I'd advise doing a search on titles first. I'd skip anything with the words girl and train.

It's been done.

A lot.

As you see, there is: :

The Girl on the Train: A Novel  by Paula Hawkins (Jan. 2015)

There's also Girl on a Train by A. J. Waines in 2014.

Almost every year, it seems - yes, there is The Girl on the Train by Lee Gavin in 2013,

And.... yes, here's also another book, The Girl on the Train by David G. Pearce  published in 2011.

There are also books with the main title above and a subtitle. I quit searching after that.

** More popular book titles using the word "girl" include:

Gone Girl and of course, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson

Oh, and since the dragon book published in 2009, apparently there are 91 books with The Girl... titles.

An FYI - there's even a 2011 list on Goodreads of books with girl in the title -  all 482 of them (make that 483 since I last looked with GIRL Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie added).

So, make of it what you will. It's a good way to get noticed or is it a way to get overlooked in the crowd? You decide.

My use of GIRL was purely accidental, though. But since my book came out, I have seen there are several more books with teen and zombie girl as the theme and in the title. So I'm on trend, or at the start of a trend, too! Who'd think it??

About  GIRL Z: My Life as a Teenage Zombie:

Life can suck when you're sixteen. It can suck even worse when you're not- quite- dead.

Sixteen-year-old Rebecca Herrera Hayes faces every teenager's biggest nightmares: bad skin, bad hair, and worse . . . turning into one of the living dead.

Becca's life changes forever when her cousin Spence comes back to their small Wisconsin town carrying a deadly secret—he's becoming a zombie, a fate he shares with her through an accidental scratch.

The Z infection, however, has mutated, affecting younger persons like her, or those treated early enough, differently. Now she must cope with weird physical changes and habits no girl wants to be noticed for. Then she meets Gabe, a good-looking part-Z like her, and fears falling for him. After all, how can he, who shows hardly any Z symptoms, be interested in someone like her?

But time is running out... Becca needs his help as she and her cousin Carm search for their missing mothers and fight off hungry Zs.

Most of all, she needs to find something, anything, to stop this deadly transformation before it is forever too late...
