Where Did This Week Go?

Holy cow!  I can't believe this week is over already.  Where did all the time go?  I've been super busy at work, then getting ready for a conference, so I haven't had time to write a proper blog post.  I apologize for that.  I'll get back on track next week.

My spouse and I watched Cooties last weekend, so I want to tell you all about that.  Next week.

I'm super excited for this conference, though.  I get to talk about my other passion: slasher films.  I'm sure zombies will come up too, they always do.  Pretty much any time I get to talk about horror is a great time!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

  1. Someone described Cooties to me before I saw the trailer. I was absolutely sure they were kidding. Now I kinda wanna see it myself. Looking forward to your review.

    Question re: slasher films.

Are you going to see Green Inferno? I state up front that my interest in z-poc fiction doesn't lie in the blood and gore part of the genre. Sure, there's that, and there should be, but I don't see it as a fun focus. On the other hand, there's a good deal of it out there, especially in anthologies, where the writers revel in it. So, with that in mind, and since you brought up slasher movies, how do you feel about a hyper-realistic depiction of cannibalism? Honestly...I can't imagine watching it any more than I can imagine watching Human Centipede or HC2. I know there's definitely a cult following of those two movie...not that I understand why, lol. But, thoughts?

  2. Scott, I have seen the previews for the Green Inferno, and I'm intrigued. I highly doubt I will see it in the theater, though. I will wait until it comes out on demand.

What Eli Roth does with a lot of his horror movies is makes them over the top for the shock value. He wants people coming out of them feeling sick and queasy and horrified by what they saw on the film. I saw an interview once where he said he wasn't doing anything that hadn't been done before. When slasher films first came out, they were condemned as being overly gory too. He's right about that. He goes on to claim that one day people will probably look back on his films and say "Remember when we used to think those were gory?" And that thought kind of scares me.

Personally, I don't really have an answer to your question at this point because I haven't seen the film and I'm not sure how gory and over the top it's going to be. And I have never seen Human Centipede or it's sequel, and I don't plan to any time soon.
