Happy Homicides: 600-plus Pages of Great Mystery Reading
By Joanna Campbell Slan

Discoverability is the new challenge for authors. With so many publishers and indie authors offering free or discounted books, the average reader is inundated with tempting offers. My pal Linda Gordon Hengerer and I decided to tackle this problem head-on by putting together a series of anthologies designed to introduce readers to their new favorite writers. As a bonus, we’re giving readers a special file filled with recipes and craft ideas. It’s our special “gift with purchase.”

Happy Homicides 1: Thirteen Cozy Holiday Mysteries focused on the holidays. Our authors tackled poisoned goodies, explosions, stolen cookbooks, killers determined to track down witnesses, and a dog thief to name but a few of our themes. At 213,000 words, it offers 627 pages of reading material! Our bestselling and award-winning authors: Joanna Campbell Slan, Neil Plakcy, Lois Winston, Annie Adams, Jenna Bennett, Nancy Jill Thames, Camille Minichino, Nancy Warren, Linda Gordon Hengerer, Joyce and Jim Lavene, and Teresa Trent. Currently we have 104 reviews and a 4.3 average rating. Right now, you can buy Happy Homicides 1: Thirteen Cozy Holiday Mysteries for only 99 cents.

Happy Homicides 2: Crimes of the Heart focused on love gone wrong. Really, really wrong.  It weighs in at 661 pages. These bestselling and award-winning authors include Joanna Campbell Slan, Teresa Trent, Neil Plakcy, Elaine Viets, Annie Adams, Camille Minichino, Nancy Jill Thames, Linda Gordon Hengerer, Kathi Daley, Carolyn Haines, Anna Celeste Burke, Randy Rawls, and Maggie Touissant. Currently we have 22 reviews and a 4.8 average rating. But we need more reviews! So if you are interested in reading this anthology, send an email to our assistant, Sally Lippert (SALFL27@att.net). Put HH2 in the subject line and Sally will get you a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Coming Up:
In the meantime, we’re busy putting together Happy Homicides 3: Summertime Crime. Once again, we’ll assemble a stellar cast of authors—and of course, we’ll make sure a bonus file is available for your enjoyment. We think that Summertime Crime will be the perfect beach read! The release date will be May 23, 2016.

Inspiration:
My story, “Cara Mia Delgatto and the Empty Nest,” was inspired by actual events here on the Treasure Coast of Florida. The beach near my house is a prime nesting area for endangered sea turtles. Our town hires a team of biologists to count and monitor the giant turtles’ activity. March begins our nesting season on the east coast and it doesn’t end until October. In fact, two days ago when a friend was walking the beach, a leatherback turtle crawled out of the water in front of her, turned a slow circle in the sand, and then shuffled back into the sea! My pal described it as a “God moment,” when you feel like you’ve witnessed proof there’s a divine power in the Universe.

About the author:

National bestselling and award-winning author Joanna Campbell Slan has penned 30 books, both fiction and non-fiction, including a dozen featuring Kiki Lowenstein. RT Reviews has called Joanna “one of mystery’s rising stars.” Her newest mystery series introduces Cara Mia Delgatto, a spunky entrepreneur dedicated to turning “trash into treasure.” IndieReader Reviews has called it “incredibly charming.” Joanna’s historical mystery series featuring Charlotte Brontë’s classic heroine Jane Eyre won the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence.

  1. This is fortuitous! I have a Facebook Group called the Writers Bloc Clinic where I help writers find others in their genre. In April, I'm focusing on Mystery writing, so I'm sharing this post!
