August Reading List #mystery #horror #zombie #apocalypse




Yes, I've been remiss in posting... hey, it's the last of summer! Actually, I've been writing, working on a mystery so I'm in a different frame of mind right now. But I still like to read and find new books and new-to-me books. Here's some I hope are new to you, too!

I also like to ask friends on Facebook what they're reading, as it's a good way to come across books I haven't heard about and I've discovered a few interesting ones that way... So this is definitely an intriguing mix this time...

Anthologies
 

Classics Remixed, New spins on classic tales -  New takes of old tales with horror - sci fi- thriller - supernatural and more twists. (Great concept!)

Wonderland: An Anthology - Stories inspired by Alice in Wonderland  - (Releases Sept. 17)  Various authors tackle Alice with horror, fantasy, historical, nightmare approaches and more.

Black Death at the Golden Gate, The Race to Save America from the Bubonic Plague, David K. Randall - The rush to stop what could've been a virulent aplocalypse when a man in Chinatown is found dead with the tell-tale sings of plague in 1900. Based on true events. 

Vox, Christina Dalcher -  The government decrees women can't say more than 100 words a day.. and then more laws... One woman's fight to protect her and her daughter. (Wow, someone mentioned this and it sounds incredible. Timely. And being a talker, I'd find this impossible.)

Monsters: A Christopher Wren Thriller, Mike Grist -  A wave of cruelty floods America... During a midnight brawl in a fake Arizona town, cult leader and freelance CIA agent Christopher Wren receives disturbing news. - a near-mythical cabal of elite child abusers operating in the recesses of the 'dark' Internet has lashed out in the real world. Now an anti-pedophile activist is dead, two more have been captured, and only Wren recognizes what's happening. The monsters are coming out into the plain light of day.

Journey to Where, Steven Paul Leiva -  An experiment destroys time and the team find themselves in an alternate universe where dinosaurs are the smart ones. and humans never became dominant. And the "mad" scientist responsible for it all is with them and seeks to rise to power,. even if it means their deaths..

Ribbons of Scarlet: A Novel of the French Revolution's Women, Kate Quinn, Stephanie Dray, Laura Kamoie, Sophie Perinot, Heather Webb, E. Knight - (Releases Oct. 1) Six authors (pen a tale of the hopes and dreams of women from all walks of life who previously had no voice in 18th century France as revolution rises... (This sounds fascinating and there are some big names in historic writing here. I  love historic novels and this is an interesting time period.)

Murder is Binding, Booktown Mystery 1, Lorna Barrett - New bookstore owner Tricia Miles finds her new adopted town friendly and cordial... and then her neighboring shopkeeper is found dead and the locals think she's the killer...  (Just read this one and enjoyed it, so looking forward to reading more in the series.)



The Dead of Summer  (Piper Maxwell Book 3), Jean Rabe - New Release! Latest in the Piper Maxwell series has the new sheriff tested to her limits with a county fair accident and a horrific murder.

The Price of Time, Tim Tigner - Would you change for better or worse if you had all the money and time in the world? Would finding the Fountain of Youth be a blessing - or a curse? (Came across this and it sounds fascinating!)
