#A to Z Blogging - C for Crime Anthology and Music

* Go to Day 1

I love reading, and writing, short stories, so this unique concept caught my eye - stories inspired by the music of singer Joni Mitchell!

  The Beat of Black Wings: Crime Stories Inspired by the Songs of Joni Mitchell  (Available 4/7)

What a cool concept! Anyone who loves Joni Mitchell's soulful music I'd guess would love reading this collection!

Here, 28 crime writers pay tribute to the multiple Grammy winner's music with stories inspired by the lyrics from her 17 studio albums from Song to a Seagull (1968) to Shine (2007.)

Entries include "Both Sides Now," a first collaboration between award-winning writers Art Taylor and Tara Laskowski; "Big Yellow Taxi" from Kathryn O'Sullivan, author of the Colleen McCabe series; and "River" from Stay Woodson, 2019 winner of the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine's Readers Choice Award. Other stories include "Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire" by Donna Andrews, author of the Meg Lanslow series; "The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines" by Amber Sparks; and "Ray's Dad's Cadillac" by Michael Bracken.

 ** Of note is a third of the royalties will be donated to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation in Mitchell's name.

  1. It's really not a combination you would readily think of, is it, how wonderful. Always love it when a charity gets some help too.

  2. What an unexpected and clever idea. This will have to go on my reading list, and it's wonderful about the charity support as well.
