Sundance Festival Offers Zombie film sequel, Dead Snow 2: Red Vs Dead

Maybe you haven't associated zombie films with film fests, but if you're in Utah...

The Sundance Film Festival, held from Jan. 16-26 in Park City, Utah, will offer the sequel to Dead Snow - Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead starring Martin Starr (This Is the End), Ingrid Haas (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), and Jocelyn Deboer ("Inside Amy Schumer").

The sequel follows the sole survivor of a Nazi zombie attack battling an army of zombies with the help of The Zombie Squad, a professional gang of US zombie killers. See more about the film.

** Check out some of the fest's other "Park City at Midnight" films.

Zombies on Steroids

I consider Frankenstein's monster to be one of the first zombies.  After all, he was a corpse (or bits of corpses) that was brought back to life.  The story itself is great, but the book is a little difficult to read (not because of language but because of the conventions of the day).  It asks the question:  "Who is really the monster?"  And I am a big fan of anything that makes humans question their humanity.

So, when my friend sent me this link, I squealed with delight.  I, Frankenstein is absolutely nothing like the original story, but it still looks really, really fun and I'm looking forward to seeing the film.

Another new Zombie Movie - This is the End

Just saw that another zombie movie is coming out - THIS IS THE END

Synopsis

Six friends are trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

STARRING:  Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, James Franco and Emma Watson

Well didn't see a zombie in the trailer though they're mentioned... start is well... maybe sophomoric humor? The first apocalyptic scene and the sinkhole look cool...

(I still say the World War Z movie looks cool, even if the word is that there's been problems and many changes but the author,  Max Brooks, (didn't realize he was the son of Mel Brooks), who grew up in Hollywood, says that films not being true to the book is not unusual and to be expected...)

Zombies on Film - New zombie movies and zombie film fest

What's better than reading a zombie book or story? Watching a zombie movie.

Ok, maybe not always as this genre is filled with a ton of stinkers. But there are some things to take note of.

How about a Zombie Film Fest?

* If you're in Minneapolis, for fun, check out the Zombie Short Film Fest to be held May  2-4 at the Parkway Theatre and supposedly will be touring universities.... (Download the full size pic above at the site too.)

And... you can submit your short film - they are only 15 minutes long.... The top eight films are supposed to  be shown nationwide. See submission details.

** And speaking of Zombie films.... found this link on YouTube -  I haven't watched it yet, so feel free to comment or share your thoughts.

Another zombie book to movie, Warm Bodies - how many brains do you give it?

Suddenly there is a spate of upcoming zombie movies, which is exciting for zombie readers and fans like us. The question is, book or film - which is better?

I first asked this question here after seeing Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, which I thought was an amazing movie. The book is on my tbr (to be read) list, which is growing longer by the minute.

Out now is WARM BODIES: A Novel , another book turned movie, which looks kind of interesting and quirky. I haven't yet read this either.

The Amazon book blurb: R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams.

After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and stragely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between.

( * Check out the trailer, which really does look good.)

** Have you seen the movie and/or read the book? How do they compare? Like - love -  the movie - hate it?  Why?
